Results for January 2005

52 voters was a good start to the year.

From this month, we will give a higher degree of recognition to minor placegetters, with a new High Standings Table.

There was a good spread of winners this month, with 11 members winning a total of 14 awards.

GENERAL:

Even by the twelve hour mark, a group of three (Mey, Richard, and Hans-Peter) were looking strong and had opened a small gap on the field.

These three remained the front runners to the end, but they frequently exchanged the lead, and it went down to the line for a tie between Mey and Richard, with Hans-Peter just three points back.

Hans-Peter's third place gives him a total of eleven awards

View was well ahead 24 hours into the competition, but really opened up a huge margin in the last 24 hours.

This was View's fifth award.

SPECIAL:

No prizes for guessing who was the favorite here. Mike Keith had been relatively absent from the competition in recent years, but his entry here demonstrates his amazing abilities in this genre of anagramming, and also displays the influence that he has had on our long anagrammers, such as Mey, Richard Grantham, Richard Brodie and many others. He shows us that poetry and mathematics can be combined to obtain some amazing results.

Mike had a 30 point lead after just 12 hours, extending that to 45 points by the competition's end. This was Mike's 24th win.

David's runnerup was his 65th winner. Mey and Richard were always very close for the third place award, with Richard always staying just ahead for his third win this month (from just three anagrams - must be some kind of record) and 149th on the All Time Table

5

  Horrid Stretchy Pus

RUDE:

By the last day of the month, I realised that I had created hardly any anagrams. I threw together some ordinary ones and thought that this was the pick of the bunch.

However, I was not expecting too much from it. As a result, I was surprised but delighted that I was leading easily after 12 hours. I kept a comfortable lead to the finish line.

This was my 88th win.

  Larry Brash

59

The Guinness Book of Records = Fuck! So boring! Needs hooters!

2

  David Bourke

3

  Mey Kraus

AWARDMASTER'S AWARD FOR THE BEST ANAGRAM OF A NON-WINNING AUTHOR

There were a few anagrams up for consideration here this month. We looked closely at Paul Pan's fifth place in General, Rick's narrow loss in Entertainment, Rosie's seconds in Topical and Medium. However, it was Tony's almost-winner in Long that was the one that we chose. The subject and the anagrams were as funny as eachother for a very clever result.

Tony Crafter with:
Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. There are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mother or father or it's my older brother Colin or it's my younger brother Ho Cha Song Sa Chu. But I think it's Colin. =
Inferior logic. It obviously can't be my mom or my pop, for neither venture anywhere near the Chinese restaurant. Furthermore, my brother Colin (timid poof) likes pie 'n' chips. Ho politely doesn't say a thing. Therefore it has to be ... Oh hell! It's me!

This was his sixth award.
