Original text in yellow, anagram in pink.

The first ten lines of the Iliad, translated by Robert Fitzgerald.

Anger be now your song, immortal one, Achilles' anger, doomed and ruinous, that caused the Achaeans loss on bitter loss and crowded brave souls into the undergloom, leaving so many dead men, carrion for dogs and birds. And the will of Zeus was done. Begin it when the two men first contending broke with one another, the Lord Marshall Agamemnon, Atreus' son, and Prince Achilles.

First book begins:
My renowned muses! Come out! Sing! Sing! We have a couple ninny, irate human males here so songs about anger or art would do. Scads of dead men's bodies lain across the land and canine (not bovine) creatures snarl, roar, and graze on them with abandon. The ill-fated men now dwell in hell. Horrid! Horrid! It started when lame morons couldn't get along. Then - chaos! O God!

Nothing lasts forever
and nothing ever will.
You know someday your thumping heart
shall be cold, silent, and still.
And each time you embrace someone
you know you'll have to let go.
But why we can't just hold on,
I don't know, I don't know.

Oh, sun will ever shine
Though onto autumn sky.
And we'll be always always one
'Til long after we die.

Oh how bloodveins can rot
Yet love can mount despite
Your mouldy skin on thin old bone,
(We mock'd that gloomy nocturn dark jet night!)

To Virgins, to Make Much of Time, by Robert Herrick

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may;
Old time is still a-flying.
And this same flower that smiles today
Tomorrow will be dying.

Ha! I am eighty-one --
(see all my dowdy shirts!)
Yet I will not feel outdone
by bawdy glamor-flirts.

I'm all tigress amidst whores!
