The Anagrammy Awards Results - March, 2006

Both the Forum and the voting were a bit quiet in March. I have decided to stop agonising over the declining number of voters.

As you will be aware, we lost email capability for a while recently because Doteasy received a complaint from AOL that we were sending out spam. Doteasy reconnected it after I explained the reality of the situation. They suggested dropping people off the list after a few months if they did not vote and warned me that another spam complaint will lead to a permanent loss of email service. As a result, I have reduced the email list to regulars and those who have actually voted in the last few months. Also, I have dropped the option of joining the email list when you register to download Anagram Artist.

Anyway, back to this month's results. Two members dominated the awards this month winning ten of the twelve category awards.

GENERAL:

This was the only close category this month and the winner could have been anyone of the top six place-getters.

At 12 hours, Rick and David were tied, just one point ahead of aussie battler, with Mey and Zoran another point back. By 24 hours, Zoran had assumed the lead by one point over aussie battler. With 24 hours to go in the competition, Zoran was still one ahead of aussie battler, with Paul Pan coming into contention four points further back.

The last 24 hours saw a big change, with Paul leaping into the lead, winning by two points over Zoran, and Mey finishing well to get into third place just one point ahead of Rick and aussie battler.

Of interest, the three award winners here do not have English as their mother tongue.

Paul's win was his second this year and his 13th in the four years he has been a regular in the awards. Zoran's award was also his second this year and his 19th in the five years he has spent with the awards.

SPECIAL:

David looked like the winner half way through Day One. The question was who would get the second place award, as there were only going to be two awards given this month, because of the fact there were only four entrants,

Tony was looking like picking up the second place award after 24 hours. However, Mey was just one point behind him at 48 hours. He passed Tony on the last day.

David won three awards this month, a feat that he has not done since November 2004. His five wins this year, give him a total of 81 monthly awards.

RUDE:

What a month for Mey!

He opened up a strong lead on the first day and and cruised in for a record-equalling record of seven awards for the month. Both Mey and Richard Grantham have achieved this in the past.

His grand total of monthly awards is now 247.

AWARDMASTER'S AWARD FOR THE BEST ANAGRAM OF A NON-WINNING AUTHOR

Looking at how close General was this month, you may be forgiven for thinking that the winner of this award would come from there. However, the anagrams that I really liked was Scott's runner-up in Entertainment. I would like to also give special mention to Tony's third place-getter in Special which I also strongly considered for this award.

Scott Gardner with:
Venus de Milo (Aphrodite of Melos) =
Model of maid poses in the Louvre.

This was Scott's 22nd award.

Congratulations to all the winners. Thank you all for voting.
